FAQs

Question:

Where can I find out more about what makes homes sustainable?

Answer:

From the publication “Code for Sustainable Homes"; copies are available at http://www.communities.gov.uk/index.asp?id=1506120

Question:

What is the difference between Gusto Accreditation and the “Code for Sustainable Homes”?

Answer:

The “Code for Sustainable Homes” is a nationally recognised accreditation system which grades houses according to a “star” systems which Gusto accreditation mirrors

To give additional confidence, based upon 10-years practical experience of designing and building sustainable homes, each Gusto accredited home will have been closely monitored throughout its construction to ensure that quality standards have been maintained.

Question:

At what stage does Gusto become involved in the construction of an accredited house?

Answer:

Ideally, and usually, at the design stage, well before work starts on the site.

As part of the performance of a Gusto Accredited house depends upon build techniques and criteria, Gusto also regularly inspect Accredited properties as they are being built.

Each different house-type is then thoroughly tested on completion to ensure that it reaches its design specification for carbon emissions

Question:

On a particular development, will every property be accredited and carry the same “star” rating?

Answer:

No; accreditation lies with each individual property, so for technical reasons a particular development may comprise a mix of accredited and unaccredited properties, and a mix of different grades of accreditation

Question:

How can I tell whether or not my home is performing in accordance with its accreditation?

Answer:

The main indicator will be your utility bill energy consumption figures, although these will also reflect the comfort-levels you have selected for your home.

To supplement this information, periodically Gusto will be surveying all occupants of its accredited homes to assemble average figures that can be used for guidance.

Question:

Will my Gusto accredited home achieve a higher resale value than a standard property?

Answer:

House prices depend upon many factors such as location, market conditions, quality of local schools and quality of other local amenities.  However, as energy becomes scarcer and more expensive, the cost of running a home at the comfort level desired is likely to become a bigger influence on the price of a property.

Question:

Do I get a rebate on Stamp Duty when I buy a Gusto accredited home?

Answer:

Only 6-star, zero-carbon, homes qualify for exemption from Stamp Duty
